Grilled Romaine BLT Salad

Salads can be so boring, so I decided to spice it up.

Instead of your basic salad, I decided to elevate it by grilling my Romaine. Top the warm lettuce with a ton of fresh veggies, meat, cheese, breadcrumbs, then drizzled with a honey mustard dressing to make this delicious over the top salad that puts all other salads to shame!

To start you need a few ingredients.

  • Three Romaine Lettuce hearts (halved lengthwise)
  • 1 pack of bacon (chopped up)
  • 1 large tomato (sliced)
  • Croutons (crushed)
  • 4 hard boiled eggs (chopped)
  • 1 avocado (diced)
  • 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper for taste
  • Honey Mustard dressing

There are a ton of toppings, which make this salad exciting, but different items take different preparation times. The two items that take the longest are the bacon and the hard boiled eggs.

Hard Boiled eggs

First I boiled the eggs since they take the longest time by following these instructions to make your desired hard boiled eggs. Once they are cooked, place them in a bowl of ice water and pull the shells off. Next dice them up and set aside until you are ready to build your salad.

Bacon Bites

Once the eggs are in the water, I used my air fryer and placed the bacon in there. I set it for 5 minute increments and kept flipping the bacon until it was to my desired crispiness… which is EXTRA CRISPY! Once fully cooked chop it into bacon bites so you can sprinkle them on the salad.

Grill Lettuce

While your eggs and bacon are cooking, it is time to make the base of your salad- Grilled Romaine hearts. Start by washing three romaine hearts and then cut them lengthwise down the middle. You will ultimately have 6 romaine heart halves. 

At this point, dry the romaine as much as possible and then placing the cut side up, drizzle it with olive oil and sprinkle with a little salt and pepper.


Next you want to grill the lettuce. I used my stove top cast iron grill. Spray it with olive oil and then place the romaine hearts cut and seasoned side down. Let them sit on the grill for about 3-5 minutes until there are beautiful grill marks and the lettuce is a little golden brown.


Take the lettuce off the grill and place it cut side up.

Build the salad

At this point you are ready to start building your beautiful salad. First placed your large tomato slices on top of the lettuce, then sprinkle your bacon bites, crushed croutons and Parmesan cheese.

The salad already looks beautiful, but don’t stop there.

Next you want to add your diced up hard boiled eggs, then drizzle your honey mustard dressing. This would also be delicious with Ranch or any creamy dressing.

Finally top with your diced avocado slices.

With your salad complete, you can cut off the base of the lettuce and chop it all up!

The flavors all mix well and the grilled lettuce provides unique taste and texture to the lettuce.IMG_4752
